Fixer Upper Alphabet Print

Are you guys with me when I say, I really feel like Joanna Gaines and I could be super good friends in real life?  Seriously!  She is the cutest and just seems like such a genuine, awesome, kick-A kind of girl.  One of my favorite things about her show, Fixer Upper, is all the kid space inspiration.  I'm a sucker for typography, folks, and when I saw these classic alphabet prints, I knew I needed to recreate them for my own family's reading nook.

I live in a small town.  So, framing options are pretty limited.  I haven't been able to find any options that I love and are still fairly affordable.  So, I just clipped them to some framed chicken wire in the meantime.  I also love that my daughter can use them as a guide when writing lower and uppercase letters.  These would be great for some of you home-schooling mamas, too!

Playdate Calling Cards

As I mentioned a few posts ago, my little just started at a new school this year.

Between packing, moving, and renovating our house, there hasn't been much time leftover to make new friends. A week before the "first day" festivities, I sent home playdate calling cards.

I also arranged to meet some fellow neighborhood kids and their mamas at a nearby park for pizza, cookies, juice boxes, and fun.  Not only did it give little J an opportunity to meet a few students who would be in his class, but it gave me a chance to meet their moms, socialize, and form some neighborhood acquaintances, too.

These would be great to send home with students in your child's class, too.

Little J is always saying he wants "so-and-so" to come over and play, but I don't know their parents or their contact information.  So, this is a great way to break the ice and organize some social opportunities for your little.

You never know.  The kiddos might not be the only ones to make new friends.

There's something a little sad about summer ending.

But, so much excitement comes along with bidding farewell to flip flops and sprinklers.

New teachers, new friends, new school supplies (always my favorite part), and so much more!

This month, we will be celebrating by making some of our favorite prints from the shop available to all our lovely Sissyprint readers for freebs.  I sent my little man off for the big first day of school today.

The kids are tired, I'm tired.

I know I've made a bajillion reward charts on Sissyprint, but they help make the world go `round at my house.  It encourages the kids to do their best and helps me out in the long run.  Plus, they love getting to put up a sticker when they've done a good job.

I Can Say Thank You Reward Chart

I don't know about you guys, but sometimes my kids forget to say their please and thanks.

When they do remember, I respond by saying "Thanks for being thankful!"

Thus the name of our Thanksgiving theme week.

Especially with Thanksgiving creeping up on us, I thought now would be a fantastic time

Toy Room Organization

I live in a very small, two bedroom apartment.

I have two toddler-age children and keeping the clutter and mess to a minimum is a daily challenge.

I'm trying to be more space efficient and organized in our tight living quarters

and in that process, I designed these toy organization tags.

These tags were tailored to fit my needs and I hope you can find use for them as well.

Popsicle Cozy - gift tag & pattern

I think popsicles are a huge part of summer nostalgia.

When my son was a teething baby, I'd wrap a paper towel 

with a rubber band around the ice pop to keep his little fingers from getting cold.

Two kids later and a little experience has helped me make the perfect popsicle cozy.

Believe me, there have been several designs that have been modified and simplified.

There have been pocket cozies, wrap-around cozies, but the sleeve-style cozy is the way to go.

Cut out the sewing pattern from the free printable.

Just fold the top and bottom ends of your fabric under, basting stitch across.

Fold the square of fabric in half, right sides together, basting stitch down the side.

Super easy, super fast.  Only takes a minute or two per cozy.

 Use an old dish cloth, terricloth, or snug fleece.

I like the snug fleece or quilters flannel because of the fun prints available for kids!

This pattern was formulated to fit a Pedialyte popsicle, but works great on Otter Pops, too!

What kid wouldn't love getting a cozied ice pop, topped off with a coordinating gift tag!

Especially as a mother to preschool age children, finding FREE educational tools to help prepare my brood for kindergarten is a big treat for me.  I got an email from one of our readers, Renee, a recently retired kindergarten teacher who just launched a totally free website for parents devoted to school readiness topics.

freebie friday - children's placemats

Growing up, my mom had adorable eighties-style laminated placemats for us kiddos, including funky patterns and an outline of daily table tools.  They were the perfect quick and easy trick to keep us four from scuffing the table or making it sticky or other mysterious things kids do.  

They are colorful, fun, and instructive on the basics to setting a table.  But the best is that you can just wipe them after dinner and place them in a drawer.  Which means more time with your sweet man and darling babies. :)  

  {I printed mine at FedEx Office for under two dollars, but find a friend with access to a laminating machine. Laminating there is a whopping four dollars.}
